EXPOSED:
The Truth About Cross Promoting Your Site vs.
Search Engine Promotion
By
Stephen Raitt (Reprinted

A study by Stat Market (Feb. 2002)
showed some very interesting numbers:
Source of total website traffic:
- Direct navigation (typing the URL into your browser): 52%
- Links from other sites (including ads and banners): 41%
- Search Engines: 7%
I'll bet the last number surprised you, but it shouldn't
have. With just 7% of traffic coming from search engines, even if
you're super-well positioned (which can be very time consuming and
costly), you're still going to be losing out big-time if you're
ignoring the other 93% of traffic.
To put it another way -- If you're relying on search
engines to deliver traffic to your website, you're going to be disappointed.
The very large direct navigation number (52%) echoes what I've been
saying for years. The most important thing to do in the promotion
of your site is to cross-promote your domain. People see your domain
name as part of your cross-promotion and directly navigate to your
site.
There are literally hundreds of ways to cross-promote
your site. This newsletter contains plenty of links to help you
do just this...
For the next
30 days, I encourage you to go on as many listing presentations
as possible. If not for the increased production, then simply to
increase your skill level. Bottom line: you need to have the integrity,
the commitment and the responsibility to keep your word and move
forward to achieve your next level.
Before we conclude,
I'd like to reiterate the two concepts that I feel are most important.
First, when you're meeting with a seller, you want to look at yourself
as a coach . You're there to coach them and give them the best advice
based on what they're committed to. Ninety-nine percent of the time,
the best thing for them to do is to hire you. The second thing is
when you're there with that seller, you must truly be present .
Be present to their situation; be present to what they're saying.
Don't talk at them, but talk with them.
